Jan 31, 2016 · The end of the movie runs much longer, is tougher – a fine thing. In the rated version the cut starts at the end of the shot where Sarah is kneeling down at the men. Only available in the unrated version: She is looking at the arm, starts crying asking “Axel…WHY ?” and then tries to stroke it.
Despite this, three scenes play in their unrated form regardless of which version is being watched: the flashbacks of Axel's father's death, and Harry Warden with the arm. The following scenes were trimmed or re-edited to avoid an "X" rating from the MPAA:
Mar 20, 2020 · The original My Bloody Valentine is a better movie in its uncut form with gory effects intact. The 1981 release was heavily cut in order to merit an R rating; compromising both suspense and narrative flow.
Feb 9, 2023 · My Bloody Valentine had severe problems with the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) before the release of the film, they requested cuts to every death in the movie in order to attain an R rating, and even then the movie was given an X rating.

If you've only ever seen the old VHS version of "My Bloody Valentine" (1981) as a kid and thought it was just "ok" then you have to check out the UNCUT special edition on DVD or Bluray. There was about 9 minutes cut from the theatrical and VHS release.
