Jan 3, 2021 · Upper Saddle River is a suburb of New York City with a population of 8,313. Upper Saddle River is in Bergen County and is one of the best places to live in New Jersey. Living in Upper Saddle River offers residents a rural feel and most residents own their homes.
VIEW MAPS. The land where Upper Saddle River is now was part of Lenape territory, who lived there for centuries. European (mostly Dutch) settlers arrived in the 1600s and built an agricultural center, supplying produce to New York and New Jersey markets. Several 18th Century homes are still in existence in town.

History of the historical society. Bicentennial Beginnings. Like many towns in 1977, Upper Saddle River was filled with an enthusiasm and a reverence for history following the 1976 Bicentennial celebrations. Every organization in town had participated in some way, with the highlight being a townwide picnic at Lions Park.
