The construction of the Cathedral was started in 1287 after Old Uppsala was destroyed by fire, and the center of the archdiocese moved to a new part of the city.

Today I made a visit to Uppsala Cathedral and I don't think it has had it's own post here yet. It is the seat of the Archbishop of the Church of Sweden and the so called national shrine or national sanctuary. It was completed in the year 1435 and lies on a hill right next to the Fyris river in the middle of town.
