The first U.S. satellite, Explorer 1, was launched in January 1958. In 1969 the United States landed the first man on the moon. Cuba. One of the most serious issues to develop after World War II was that of the spread of nuclear weapons. Both the United States and the Soviet Union built up large arsenals of such weapons.
