Utica (/ ˈ juː t ɪ k ə / ) is a city in the Mohawk Valley and the county seat of Oneida County, New York, United States. Its population was 65,283 in the 2020 U.S. census. It is located on the Mohawk River at the foot of the Adirondack Mountains. Utica is about 90 miles (145 km) northwest of Albany and 45 miles (72 km) east of Syracuse.
Situated on a shallow spot of the Mohawk River, the site was of strategic and economic importance to the Native Americans, the British and the French, and later played an integral part in the Revolutionary war and the westward expansion.
