He won the ‘Academy Award’ for the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for his remarkable performance as ‘Jeff Hartnett’ in the film noir ‘Johnny Eager.’ He made his acting debut on ‘Broadway’ during the late 1920s.

Won Oscar as Best Supporting Actor in 1943 for his performance in Johnny Eager. His career spanned 34 years from 1936 to 1978. He appeared in 56 feature films.
