Emmett Evan "Van" Heflin Jr. (December 13, 1908 – July 23, 1971) was an American theatre, radio, and film actor. He played mostly character parts over the course of his film career, but during the 1940s had a string of roles as a leading man.

Van Heflin, born Emmett Evan Heflin Jr., was an American theater, screen, and radio actor. He won the ‘Academy Award’ for the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for his remarkable performance as ‘Jeff Hartnett’ in the film noir ‘Johnny Eager.’ He made his acting debut on ‘Broadway’ during the late 1920s.
Heflin served in WW II in the Air Force as a combat cameraman. Appeared in first play in 1928 at age of 20 at the Yale School of Drama. Started with RKO then onto MGM. Won Oscar as Best Supporting Actor in 1943 for his performance in Johnny Eager. His career spanned 34 years from 1936 to 1978. He appeared in 56 feature films.
