Rebecca James is a counselor at Neptune High. She dated Keith Mars briefly until he ended the relationship because Veronica wasn't ready for him to start dating.
Rebecca is Neptune High's guidance counselor and worries about Veronica's status in the school. In her concern, she reaches out to Keith in order to deal with the situation. In the midst of these conversations, they form a romantic connection when Keith "bumps" into her at Rebecca's favorite coffee shop and he asks her out on a date.
Keith and Rebecca continue to see each other and she goes directly to Keith's office before one of their dates so she can 'formally' introduce herself and their newfound relationship to Veronica, hoping to get her blessing. Veronica, through gritted teeth, says she is fine with it and they head out.
Things take a turn when Veronica comes home to see Rebecca in the kitchen cooking the Mars' family dinner and this angers her. In anger, she uses her investigative skills to do a background check on Rebecca and she uncovers an arrest history in which she was caught writing bad checks when she was 21.
Veronica presents him with this information and the two get into an argument, to which Veronica says he should be focusing on finding her mother and not dating other women. Keith is angered but decides to put his daughter's concerns first and breaks up with Rebecca. The two depart amicably.
