     Seems that you are in luck too. From the dump section:

     As of 12 March 2010, the latest complete dump of the English-language Wikipedia can be found at http://download.wikimedia.org/enwiki/20100130/ This is the first complete dump of the English-language Wikipedia to have been created since 2008. Please note that more recent dumps (such as the 20100312 dump) are incomplete.

     So the data is only 9 days old :)

     Considering the size of the dump, you would probably be better served using the word frequency in the English language, or to use the MediaWiki API to poll pages at random (or the most consulted pages). There are frameworks to build bots based on this API (in Ruby, C#, ...) that can help you.

     Open source dictionaries like GNU aspell will have the words. Not sure about noun, verb, adjective information.

     WordNet is what you want. It's big, containing over a hundred thousand entries, and it's freely available.

     However, it's not stored as XML. To access the data, you'll want to use one of the existing WordNet APIs for your language of choice.

     Using the APIs is generally pretty straightforward, so I don't think you have to worry much about "learning (a) complex API". For example, borrowing from the WordNet How to for the Python based Natural Language Toolkit (NLTK):

     While there is an American English bias in WordNet, it supports British spellings and usage. For example, you can look up 'colour' and one of the synsets for 'lift' is 'elevator.n.01'.

     Notes on XML

     If having the data represented as XML is essential, you could easily use one of the APIs to access the WordNet database and convert it into XML, e.g. see Thinking XML: Querying WordNet as XML.

     Your console.log is OUTSIDE the callback, therefor it gets called right after you initiate the call before the callback is happening.

     Try doing something like this: (I am not so sure on the events names)

     var req = http.get(......) //rest of code stays the same-req.on('end', function() {console.log(consensus);});

     I think it should solve your problems.

     And try to read more about the async nature of nodeJS.

     What's so impossible about it ? Try this code: Notice that CONTEXT creating the file could be an Activity/ApplicationContext/etc.
