Since 2021, she has been the 49th vice president of the United States under President Joe Biden. She is the first female ever in U.S. history elected to this office. Before becoming vice president, she was a United States senator from California from 2017 until 2021.
Biden was elected the 46th president of the United States in November 2020, defeating the incumbent Donald Trump, the first president to lose re-election since George H. W. Bush in 1992. He became the second non-incumbent vice president to be elected president, and the first Democrat to do so.
