Before World War two the Birkenkopf was simply a hill overlooking Stuttgart. Stuttgart was repeatedly bombed during WWII as it was a major industrial area. After the war the hill was filled up with 1.5 million cubic meters of rubble from the City and is now 511meters high. The view from the summit is fabulous.

At 511 metres, the Birkenkopf is the highest point in the inner city (almost 300 metres higher than the Neckar!) and offers a fantastic view over Stuttgart. On a clear day you can also see the Strohgäu, the Black Forest, the Wartberg near Heilbronn, the Neckar valley, the Swabian Forest and the Swabian Alb. Share.

Sep 7, 2022 · The walk up isn't that wild. The view from the top is pretty amazing. Seeing and walking through the remains of which were some beautiful buildings is quite the experience. Definitly worth a visit.
