   Jul 15, 2022 · Now Viking have 80+ river cruisers they serve different wine. I thought the Austrian wines particularly good. Anyway, last time we went through the Wachau Valley (On Danube Waltz in 2018) we took an excursion to Morwald winery where the very jolly owner Erhardt Morwald, pictured below, treated us right royally.

We are quite experienced Ocean cruisers with some 50 or so under our belt and so in 2013 thought it would be interesting to try a river cruise since Viking was promoting so heavily. It sure looked good when the advertised on PBS.

   What was your biggest complaint about the Viking Cruise?

   • Biggest disappointment of the cruise. It was about 35 deg with heavy rain and winds on arrival. Our biggest complaint of the Viking staff was they lined everybody up in maybe 6 groups (it was the only tour that day) with umbrellas in the crappy weather then walked to town. They could have formed up in the boat by group and avoided half of that.

   Are there any complaints about Viking Island?

   • In fact, the complaints about this place were it was “too modern” and there were too many cruise lines staying there. There were 3 Viking boats, 2 AmaWaterways, and at least 1 Avalon. Some were on a pre-cruise stay and some were post like us.

   May 13, 2020 · Viking changed our flight schedule at very short notice. Wanted us to travel with 3 flights via 2 countries, when we complained they hid behind T & C’s very sneaky & very poor customer service, they cited they couldn’t absorb costs of a more direct flight routing.

   Managing river levels with Viking. After reading the reviews for Viking river cruises, it seemed worthwhile to contribute. I have done 5 fabulous Eu Viking cruises from 2014 to my most recent in April 2023. In 2014 The Rhine was in flood and we had to get a coach from Basel to the first port.
