The Japanese government still recommends that visitors to Japan use the Visit Japan Web app, which replaces the paper arrival card and customs declaration, but you DO NOT HAVE TO USE THE VISIT JAPAN WEB APP. On our last entry to Japan in October 2023, those not using the app actually moved faster through immigration and customs.

Nov 1, 2022 · Completing fast-track registration will expedite your entry into Japan. Fast-track registration was previously done through the MySOS app, but from 1 November 2022, Japan has switched over to Visit Japan Web (VJW) instead. Here’s how the transition process works:
Nov 1, 2022 · Fast Track, pre-registration for entry to Japan, will be added to Visit Japan Web from November 1st, 2022. If your arrival date is after November 1, please use Visit Japan Web. Please refer to Visit Japan Web for further information.
Certificate upon entering Japan. Please be sure to bring your Inspection Certificate with you. If you are planning to register Inspection Certificate in Quarantine Fast Track, please select "Use Quarantine Fast Track or bring a paper" and present the "Registration complete" screen of Quarantine Fast Track at quarantine and immigration procedure.
