In women, vWD often shows up as menorrhagia, excessive menstrual bleeding. People with vWD also frequently suffer bruising and nosebleeds. On the other, pregnancy tends to improve the clotting of women with vWD types 1 and type 2, so they bruise and bleed less.
Pregnancy causes VWF levels to rise in most women, including many of those with VWD, which makes the disease harder to detect (Figure).
