Waking the Dead (2000) I saw about 25 minutes of this movie several years ago, had to leave, and was always intrigued by it. I figured out what the movie was, watched it all the way through on Saturday, and loved it. It was so emotionally moving and the chemistry between Jennifer Connelly and Billy Crudup was palpable.
As hard as "Waking the Dead" works to make us wonder if Sarah is really still alive, the movie refuses to follow its protagonist over the edge. Part of the disappointment of "Waking the Dead" has to do with its central performance.
In 1972, Coast Guard officer Fielding Pierce (Billy Crudup) is passionately drawn to Sarah Williams (Jennifer Connelly), an idealistic activist. This is the reason why I give unknown movies a try-- they sometimes simply end up surprising me! "Waking the Dead" is a strong and dramatic romance, which shows everything a man passes through when he loses the one he really loves. The main character is apparently a common guy, but once his girlfriend dies (or not), everything goes downhill.
