Walt Disney built a 1/8th scale live-steam railroad at his residence in Holmby Hills, CA, in 1950. He called it his "happy place" and operated it until 1953 when he shifted his energies into creating Disneyland. Today, you can visit Walt’s Barn, a quaint red barn that he called his workshop, where you can see trains of all scales, many of which were donated by his animators and friends.

Walt was also a founding member of the LA Live Steamers. The Walt Disney barn is a time capsule into the mind of Walt Disney.
