The Solid Waste Department is responsible for all solid waste services in St. Louis County outside of the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD). The Department encourages recycling; with its recycling rate of 57% far exceeding the state mandated goal of 25%.
The Canister Site and Recycling Center is a joint venture between Balkan Township, the City of Chisholm, and St. Louis County and is open to anyone. We accept a variety of recyclable materials free of charge.
