Mar 27, 2020 · Lumber list: 1. 12 2x2 square edge 36" spindles. 2. 2 1x6' for back and seat (doing 3 instead of 2 like this) 3. 1 1x4' for arm rests and bracing to hold top of chair together on back. 4. Brads for tacking. 5. 2.5" kreg pocket screws. The spindles are cheaper and what I think might be straighter than normal 2x2 treated lumber in 8 foot lengths.
In this two-day workshop, construct your own Wave Hill Chair under the guidance of master woodworker and Wave Hill Director of Facilities Frank Perrone. Participants receive step-by-step instructions; no previous carpentry skills required, but participants must attend both sessions.
Offered through The Shop, the Wave Hill Chair is based on a 1918 design by the acclaimed Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld and is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Chair plans are available for purchase and can be sent via email or postal mail if you would like to construct your own.
