Wayne County. Wayne County was founded in 1819. It was named in honor of Maj. Gen. Anthony Wayne, from Pennsylvania. From his daring, usually successful, exploits during the Revolutionary War earned him the nickname of "Mad Anthony". Wayne County lies on the western portion of the Middle Tennessee Plateau.
