Apr 19, 2019 · Coming cleanly out of a veteran presence within England's punk scene of the '70s, Chrissie Hynde was certainly primed for success in the new wave '80s. However, the band she put together for the 1980s self-titled release was one of the first of the era to combine roots rock with a guitar-fueled punk attitude.
The following is a list of artists and bands associated with the new wave music genre during the late 1970s and early-to-mid 1980s. The list does not include acts associated with the resurgences and revivals of the genre that have occurred from the 1990s onward.
Some of these artists arrived in the post-punk/new-wave age; others had been evolving for years.
