The Merseburger Zauber or Merseburg Charms were first published in a paper by Jacob Grimm read before the Royal Academy of Sciences [Konigl. Akademie der Wissenschaften] in Berlin on Feburary 3rd, 1842. The first charm introduces the Old German Idisi, most likely the Valkyries of Scandinavian mythology, who tend to the fortunes of war.
