Quick question, would something like applebees it another big chain restaurant be better or should I try to find more local bar and grills as a good starter? I've never worked in food service before, mostly I've done more manual stuff like landscaping so what would you recommend to say out write down on a resume to get that first job.

I can tell if someone is experienced or not when they get behind the bar: how they cut fruit, questions they ask, how they pour a beer, do they know what names bartenders have for things, can they stir properly with a bar spoon.
