When to seek medical advice. Your child has a fever if he or she: Has a rectal, ear or forehead (temporal artery) temperature of 100.4 F (38 C) or higher. Other than the fever, she doesn’t have any other symptoms. Could it be periodic fever syndrome? How is that diagnosed, and is treatment for it different than treating a “normal” fever in kids?
