  2. SPOILER. Question: huge spoiler!! I know that some of the hackett family is savable. But what happens if you don’t shoot Constance? In my first playthrough she died. Is it one of those situations where if one lives the others gotta die. Like if you pull the trigger constance dies so if you miss the check and don’t pull the trigger will Laura die.

Following the grisly events of the prologue, The Quarry's first chapter will get things back on a strangely upbeat note. This section is mostly a way to introduce the game's leading cast, showing them argue about love, plan wild parties, discuss podcasts and inadvertently seal themselves into a night of gruesome torment... the usual stuff. The walkthrough below will help you make the most of this introductory chapter.

After watching the group of counsellors wave goodbye to the kids, we'll take on the role of Jacob as he talks with Kaitlyn about the end of the trip. Kaitlyn will claim that many relationships are formed and inevitably broken at summer camp, allowing Jacob to respond in one of two ways:

The pair will then start talking about Jacob's fleeting summer romance with his now ex-girlfriend, Emma. Once the conversation is finished, you'll gain control of Jacob with the task of finding the final bags.

This is a great area to investigate and become acquainted with the exploration mechanics The Quarry has to offer, so take your time and take a good look around.

First up, let's head to the right of Kaitlyn and look for a hunting notice above the wooden fence in the parking lot. It's pictured above. Interact it with it to get our first clue of the chapter.

Jacob will head down the stairs with the bags and take them to the car, continuing his conversation with Kaitlyn in the process. She'll ask Jacob to be honest about Emma, meaning we get two more dialogue options:

When the conversation concludes, Jacob and Kaitlyn will head around to the front of the van to look under the hood and check everything's working. Desperate to spend more time convincing Emma to make things work with him, Jacob hatches a devious plan. He's going to mess with the car to make sure the counsellors have to stay one final night.

After asking Kaitlyn about the best way to leave everyone stranded in the monster-infested woods, we'll get a choice: Break the fuel line or steal the rotor arm? The outcomes are listed below:

Although neither will particularly hinder your playthrough, the rotor arm is arguably the better choice here. It'll lead us to a crucial piece of evidence later in the game, so it's worth picking if you're stuck between both options.

Pick your poison and we’ll officially make our first choice on the "A Fool’s Errand" path. The cutscene will then resume, showing Dylan and Nick emerge from the lodge. They'll throw Jacob's phone to him, initiating a QTE. Press QTE Up when prompted to catch the phone. Dylan and Nick will then head down to the parking lot and chat with Kaitlyn and Jacob. Dylan will joke about Jacob and Emma's break-up, allowing another dialogue choice:

The conversation will then turn to where all the other counsellors are and the scene will change, shifting to Abi and Emma over at the cabins.

Once we're done picking the best way to strand ourselves for the evening, we'll head over to two characters we haven't met yet: Abi and Emma. When the scene opens, Abi will be peacefully sketching in her notebook as Emma arrives, telling her it's time to head back to the lodge. We'll now have to hit a QTE Up to high-five Emma, leading to potentially the longest and most awkward high-five in human history...

Regardless, the pair will now broach a trickier topic. Emma and Abi’s bags are inside the nearby cabin but the door is locked. We'll then get a choice: Leave the bags or break in? Here's the outcome of both decisions:

If you did break into the cabin, let's take a few seconds to explore. To the left of the entrance, you'll find a one-eyed teddy that belongs to one of the campers.

Abi can choose to keep it or leave it. It may look like something out of a nightmare, but the best option is to take it. We can use it for an important scene later, so it’s worth having that in your inventory.

Once you're done exploring the cabin (or if you opted to leave the bags entirely) it's time to investigate the nearby area. We can find a few clues here as well as our first piece of evidence.

From the cabin we start at, take a right and head two cabins down. You'll find a tape player leaning against the steps leading to cabin 08. This is another clue.

If we take the scenic route, we'll get an additional dialogue choice and our first look at the lake. As the pair drive, Abi and Emma will talk about their long stint without technology. Emma will mention her social media followers, prompting a response from Abi. Here are the options:

Regardless of your choice, the two will continue to talk about social media and eventually Abi's crush on Nick, who she's been interested in all summer. As the pair drive by the lake, we'll get a little tease that things aren't exactly what they seem in the idyllic camping spot…

After Abi and Emma's excursion, we'll cut back to the lodge. Dylan, Nick, Jacob and Kaitlyn will be standing around cracking jokes when Abi and Emma finally arrive.

If you left Abi and Emma's bags in the cabin earlier, Dylan will ask about where their luggage is. Once they explain it's locked in the cabin, you'll get the option to either question their logic or be sarcastic about bears. Pick whichever takes your fancy.

Regardless of whether you're quizzed on bags or not, the scene will push on, with Kaitlyn wondering where Ryan is. Dylan will make a comment and then Ryan will approach, telling the group he was listening to a podcast. Jacob will ask what the podcast is about. Dylan can respond in two ways:

Ryan will proceed to fill the camp in on the tale of the Hag of Hacketts Quarry, cueing Jacob to hit out with a straight fire diss he stole from 2013: "Cool story, bro". Dylan can then respond in two ways:

The scene will now cut to Ryan and Chris in the lodge's office. The pair will start talking before Chris gets an important phone call, asking Ryan to leave.

Once you're outside the office, you'll have two choices: Eavesdrop or listen to your podcast? Here are the outcomes:

This doesn't have a major impact on the story as a whole, but opting to eavesdrop will give you more insight into the mystery forming around Hackett Quarry. Even though Chris catches him, the eavesdropping won’t come up again, so it’s arguably the better choice.

Once back inside the office, Ryan will chat about his family life and ask Chris for advice, however, the camp coordinator isn't focused on what he's saying. Ryan will get a chance to call him out on this, giving us two dialogue options:

We'll get a direct follow-up to this discussion directly after, with Ryan able to respond to Chris' lecture about ghost stories:

After talking about the ghost stories, Chris will insist he wants to get the counsellors out of Hackett's Quarry by nightfall. Ryan will have a chance to ask why he's so stressed about this curfew:

After heading to the parking lot, the result of our decision as Jacob earlier will come to light. Due to the missing rota arm or broken fuel line, the car will be out of action (how severely depends on which method you chose).

Chris will admit that it only makes sense for the counsellors to stay for an extra night, telling Ryan that the group has to stay in the lodge, lock all the doors and not come out until morning. He'll ask Ryan to promise. Ryan can respond with two options:

As soon as Chris leaves, the group completely disregards his safe (and very monster-devoid) plan for the night, with Dylan suggesting that the group shouldn't spend the night in the lodge. Ryan can react in two ways about this, with either of these dialogue options:

Dylan will pitch a party on the beach to celebrate the final night of camp. Everyone is on board except Abi, who reminds the group that Chris seemed very insistent on them staying inside the lodge. Ryan can pitch in here, with the option to say:

Regardless of whether Ryan supports or pushes back against the party, the group will decide it's going ahead.

We'll then cut to a short scene of two hunters watching the group from afar. The pair are sure to be major players in the night to come, and it's clear from the offset that they're definitely up to something unsettling. When the reveal ends, we'll have our chance to quickly return to the fortune teller.
