May 1, 2013 · While Robinson, the color barrier, and the first televised World Series are clearly the biggest stories of 1947, two other events merit a small mention as well. 1947 saw the first College World Series , which was won by California; and the first Little League World Series won by Williamsport, PA.
Background. The Indians, by winning the American League pennant, kept the Yankees from having a chance to win their sixth straight series. The last time the Yankees had been absent from the World Series was 1948, when the Indians defeated the Boston Braves to win the championship.

The 1947 World Series also accounted for three other Series "firsts" as it was the first to ever be televised, the first with a black player on a roster, and the first to produce total receipts over the $2,000,000 plateau.
