Hellraiser is based on the book, The Hellbound Heart, and while both the book and movie were written by Clive Barker, they featured some striking differences, especially concerning Pinhead himself. Of all of the horror franchises to come out of the 1980s, Hellraiser is perhaps the most cerebral.
