    The 57th and current governor is Mike Parson, a Republican elected as lieutenant governor in 2016. He assumed office on June 1, 2018, following the resignation of Eric Greitens(R).

    The state Constitution addresses the office of the governor in Article IV, the Executive Department. Under Article IV, Section I:
