Aug 12, 2017 · Impact. Over 70 principals placed in CPS schools; around 70 percent lead in high-need and high-achieving or improving schools. As part of the CLC, New Leaders trains 25 to 40 potential principal candidates in its Aspiring Principals Program and 50-70 teacher leaders in its Emerging Leaders Program.

We will continue to serve more than 300 educators a year through our programming, unlocking school-level innovation and fueling strong teaching and learning.
We will provide tangible resources – from financial support to mentorship – that remove barriers for strong teachers who want to pursue the principalship, with an emphasis on supporting strong Black and Latino/a/x leaders. Chicago Leads Goal: Increase the number of strong Black male and Latino/a/x principals by 40%.
We will lengthen average principal tenure by one year and support managed leadership transitions, ensuring students and educators continue to thrive. Chicago Leads Goals: Grow tenure from 5.8 to 6.8 years and introduce a transition-readiness indicator.

In 2020-21, the program evolved from a one-year to a two-year model, and academic and policy sessions focused on school sustainability and system-level leadership. The Fellowship is often leveraged as a pipeline to district leadership to develop principals’ leadership pathways and options while honoring that their journey is nonlinear.
