Mar 8, 2013 · The Williamsburg Bridge was the 2nd bridge to be built over the East River and when it opened in 1903, it took over the Brooklyn Bridge’s record as the world’s longest suspension bridge span, a record it held until 1924, and was actually built by the Roebling Company, the namesake company of the builders of the Brooklyn Bridge.
What makes the Williamsburg Bridge particularly appealing to me are the following: 1. It is not nearly as crowded as it's older downtown siblings; Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. 2. Midspan on the Willamsburg bridge has a cross-over walkway, so you can fully appreciate the views of both north and south of the bridge.
