Mar 29, 2012 · The 1098 with the full exhaust system feels as strong or stronger than a stock 1198. The 1098 makes similar power to the 1198 if you rev it a little harder. They both come with the same (too small!) fuel tank - guess which one uses more fuel? The radiator issue wasn't sorted until mid-2010, so both of those bikes may experience the problem.

Jul 11, 2019 · (The 1098 Streetfighter was built on 1198 crankcases so it too has good mains. It's the 1098 SBK that is dodgy). Also, the 1198 is a gruntier and more tractable unit with a much fatter midrange. The 1098, by Ducati standards, was relatively peaky. It's a more top-endy engine than the 1198.
Jul 27, 2014 · Purchase Advice. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a used 1198s. After searching for 1098s' for several weeks, I've learned the 1198s isn't much more expensive. As far as I can tell, the only difference is the 1198s has traction control, 100 more cc's, BUT doesn't come with the stock Termignoni exhaust system.
Jun 1, 2009 · The horsepower difference is only 10 ponies, but you can feel the difference. The 1198's 170hp is smoother- read the reviews. The 1198 engine weighs 6.5 lbs lighter than the 1098 ( www.motorcycle.com) and 2007 1098S (identical engine as 1098) saw dyno results of 141 hp and 80 ft-lbs.
Mar 29, 2010 · The biggest and most important change to both bikes is of course the engine, which is now 1198cc, and although it keeps the same 1098 rev limit of 10,500rpm you now have a 10bhp increase in power all the way to the red line. To achieve this, in a nutshell, everything has been made bigger.
Jun 6, 2014 · Bear in mind that the 1198 not only has a bigger engine capacity, but also has larger intakes, and one of the most significant drawbacks of either model is fuel range.. Nothing wrong with a well-maintained 1098 (I have an 1198 also). Stock tank is too small on either. Check out etifuelcel.com
