Dec 1, 2014 · In this chapter we will begin with a brief sketch of the lexical characteristics of Arabic, especially its morphology, followed by a brief review of the history of Arabic lexicography, citing the major lexicons of each period, and highlighting the factors at play with each dictionary.

Ali M. Al-Kasimi. Abstract. After the death of the Prophet Mohammad in 632 A.D., Moslem scholars were in need of understanding certain verses in the Holy Qur’an and some of the Prophet’s oral tradition and sayings. This need motivated a linguistic movement including grammar and lexicography.
