The entire Lake Zurich which has a shape of a banana belongs to 3 cantons of Switzerland – Zurich in the north-west (which encapsulates most part of the Lower Lake or the downstream part of the lake), and the cantons of St. Gallen and Schwyz in the south-east where the Upper Lake (or the upstream part of the lake) belongs.
It lies at an altitude of 1,332 feet (406 m) and has an area of about 34 square miles (88 square km); its extreme length is 18 miles (29 km), maximum breadth 2 1/2 miles, and maximum depth 469 feet. The Linth River flows into it and emerges as the Limmat.
