In 2003 a website called Wikitravel was launched, which sought to allow travellers and others to share travel information freely. In 2006 the site was bought by a company named Internet Brands (IB), a commercial for-profit organisation. Following the acquisition by IB, members from both the German and Italian language sites left, forming a separate site named Wikivoyage. That is to say, they copied the freely-licensed content from Wikitravel to the newly-formed Wikivoyage, where it was edited...
Following the projects' divergence, there are now many differences between Wikivoyage and Wikitravel, some examples of which are listed in the table below.
The content, images and policies that make up the Wikivoyage site have been developed continuously since 24 July 2003, and some of the current contributors to Wikivoyage have been developing this content since those early days. The website wikivoyage.org was first created in 2006 when the domain was registered and the German and Italian Wikivoyage sites launched with copies of the existing content. English Wikivoyage was created on 30 August 2012 when a copy of the existing content was moved...
Not currently. Internet Brands took legal action (dismissed before trial) against two Wikivoyage volunteers, and removes any links to or mention of Wikivoyage from any discussion pages on their Wikitravel site. The Wikimedia Foundation also took legal action against Internet Brands, resulting in a settlement in which the rights to establish this travel site were confirmed.
While content can be legally copied from Wikitravel to Wikivoyage if attribution is provided in accordance with the CC-BY-SA license, such copying is generally discouraged due to the history of litigation between the two sites and due to the fact that having the same content on both sites can penalize Wikivoyage in search rankings (see search engine optimization for more information). Instead of copying text, consider contributing original content written in your own words.Legally, content fr...

The city of Paris itself is officially divided into 20 districts called arrondissements, numbered from 1 to 20 in a clockwise spiral from the centre of the city (which is known as Kilometre Zero and is located at the front of Notre Dame). Arrondissements are named according to their number. You might, for example, stay in the \\"5th\\", which would be written as 5e in French. The 12th and 16th arrondissements include large suburban parks, the Bois de Vincennes, and the Bois de Boulogne respective...

Paris is served by three international airports - for more information, including arrival/departure times, check the official sites.
First and foremost, French (le français) is of course the country's official language. Any native French person will speak French and it helps if you can speak a bit of it. In the parts of the city that tourists frequent the most (Tour Eiffel, Le Louvre, Champs-Elysées), the shopkeepers, information booth attendants, and other workers are likely to answer you in English, even if your French is advanced. These workers tend to deal with thousands of foreign tourists, and responding in English i...
One of the best value and most convenient ways to see the sights of Paris is with the Paris Museum Pass, a pre-paid entry card that allows entry into over 70 museums and monuments around Paris (and the Palace of Versailles) and comes in 2-day (€48), 4-day (€62) and 6-day (€74) denominations. Note these are 'consecutive' days. The card allows you to jump lengthy queues, a big plus during tourist season when line can be extensive, and is available from participating museums, tourist offices, Fn...

Baghdad has a long and illustrious history. Once it was a prestigious learning and cultural center. Since the coalition invasion in 2003, Baghdad has become one of the most dangerous cities on Earth. Marketplaces are some of the most dangerous places in Baghdad.
Baghdad is still facing some instabilities but the security circumstances are much better now. There are growing amounts of business attractions although touristic activities are still facing some problems.
A nightly train service is available from Basra departing at 7PM, arrival time is 6:40AM the next morning. Delays are however very common. Prices range between 10,000 IQD for a couchette to 25,000 IQD for first class. There is also an irregular service from Fallujah.
The preferred method of transportation is helicopter. If helicopter transport is not available, use of a fully armoured car or Rhino (armoured bus) is recommended. Rugs and DVDs are available to buy. Inspect the quality of rugs carefully: Some are cheap Chinese made rugs, and many are extremely overpriced. Also, many DVDs - especially from street vendors - are bootlegs of varying quality.
Yes, there is drinking during down times. The International Zone is truly international. Many organizations have their own bars, some open to all.
Movement within Baghdad is difficult and extremely hazardous and entry into the International Zone, a.k.a. Green Zone, requires a pass or that you be accompanied by authorized officials. Iraq is a war zone and even if you're from a country which is part of the coalition, you will not be granted entry into the IZ without authorization. Most ex-pats and business travelers to Iraq hire a security detail which constantly monitors the security situation within Iraq and around Baghdad. Travel outside the IZ is extremely fatal. Roadside and car bombs are detonated every day in Baghdad. Many Iraqis are armed. Markets and popular gathering places are frequent targets of bombers. As a foreigner you are more likely to be targeted for kidnapping and murder. Kidnappings and murders are often financially motivated. These threats are not restricted to Americans or women. If you want to travel to a safe place around Iraq, go to the Iraqi Kurdistan.
