Bantry (Irish: Beanntraí, meaning "(place of) Beann's people") is a town in the civil parish of Kilmocomoge in the barony of Bantry on the southwest coast of County Cork, Ireland. It lies in West Cork at the head of Bantry Bay, a deep-water gulf extending for 30 km (19 mi) to the west.

Bantry is a beautiful and modern harbour town in West Cork, one of the most picturesque parts of Ireland. It is located along the renowned Wild Atlantic Way touring route and is the perfect base from which to explore these stunning lands.
Bantry Town Commissioners at their very first meeting voted to change the name of the town square from Egerton Square to Wolfe Tone Square in 1896. It’s interesting to note that many of the principal streets in Bantry town, as we know them today, were actually tidal or waterways up to the nineteenth century. The sea lapped the end of Church Road.
