- Breakfast. Kickstart your one day in Naples by treating yourself to a hearty breakfast with some Neapolitan delicacies and a shot of espresso. Neapolitans are devoted sweet-tooths and with such an alluring variety of pastries and sweets, Naples is the last place you want to be if you’re on a diet.
- Piazza del Plebiscito. The Piazza del Plebiscito is a large and elegant piazza (public square) that is one of the major points of interest in Naples.
- Royal Palace of Naples. The Royal Palace of Naples (Palazzo Reale) was one of my favorite things to see in Naples. The size and splendor of this royal palace are a great example of the Bourbon dynasty in its pomp and fitting for a city that was once one of the most important in Europe.
- San Carlo Theater. The San Carlo Theater (Teatro di San Carlo) is not only one of the must-see sights in Naples but also one of the most beautiful opera houses in the world.
- Gesù Nuovo Church & Square. Time needed: 15-20 minutes. Piazza del Gesù Nuovo is one of the nicest squares in the old historic city center of Naples. The main attraction here is Chiesa del Gesù Nuovo (New Jesus Church), probably the most beautiful church in the city.
- Monumental Complex of Santa Chiara. Time needed: 45-60 minutes. Just across the street from Gesu Nuovo, you will find a big monastery complex – Complesso Monumentale di Santa Chiara, dating to the early 14th century.
- Spaccanapoli. Time needed 5-15 minutes. Spaccanapoli is the most famous street of Naples – the famous ‘Naples splitter’. You should see it from above in order to appreciate how special it is and how it indeed looks like this street cuts the city center in two… But it’s probably even more impressive to simply walk around here.
- Via San Gregorio Armeno. Time needed 5-10 minutes. Via San Gregorio Armeno is one of the side streets of Spaccanapoli. It’s probably the most famous alleyway in Naples, also known as ‘Christmas Street’.

Naples has been for years a concealed secret, mainly enjoyed by locals, but now the secret is out, and Naples is rising as one of the best cities to visit in Italy.
- Start at the Piazza del Plebiscito. The Piazza del Plebiscito is not only beautiful and centrally located in Naples, it’s also surrounded by significant buildings and can essentially be considered the main square of the city.
- Head to Caffe Gambrinus. Opulent, gorgeous, and home to delicious coffee served on their iconic china, Caffe Gambrinus is both the perfect place to grab a Neapolitan-style breakfast and get sufficiently caffeinated enough to tackle Naples in one day, and it’s also a piece of history.
- Munch on a sfogliatella. You can grab one of these delicate, layered pastries either at Caffe Gambrinus or at one of the stalls near Galleria Umberto I if you want to save a bit of money–but either way, be sure to sample one!
- Duck into the Galleria Umberto I. If you’ve traveled to Italy before (or just scrolled through Italy-themed hashtags on Instagram), odds are that you’ve seen the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, the famous mall topped with a glass dome.
