Garmisch and Partenkirchen were originally two different towns that were joined by a decree of Adolf Hitler to bring the 1936 Winter Olympics to Germany.
- Visit Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain. Who doesn’t want to be able to say they’ve been to the highest point in Germany? If it isn’t cloudy (which it invariably is sometimes) Zugspitze is easily spotted from Garmisch-Partenkirchen and, indeed, even from Munich on clear days.
- Walk around Lake Eibsee and take in the magical views. Lake Eibsee has to be the most beautiful lake in Bavaria, if not in the whole of Germany. It’s definitely one of the prettiest ones we’ve ever seen!
