Being John Malkovich is all about, ironically enough, beingyourself. When Craig enters the mind of John Malkovich, he believes he is seeing the world through a new set of eyes—but really, it’s just him. He might be in a different body, but it’s still his same mind. And, thus, his same fears, his same anxieties.
The final scene of the film shows the new vessel in the form of Maxine and Lotte's daughter, Emily. Craig is heard trying to make her his puppet, as he had done for Malkovich. There is a turn to horror, as we see a 7 year old girl's path to imprisonment. We saw this presented with Malkovich for our entertainment.
