     Presently, SQL Server only supports Windows time zone identifiers. You can vote for adding IANA time zone support here.

     In the meantime, you have options:

     • In your application layer, you can convert the IANA time zone ID to the equivalent Windows time zone ID. If you are using .NET, the simplest way is with my TimeZoneConverter library. Otherwise, you can use the CLDR mappings file manually, or any library implementation that is based on it.
     • You could use my SQL Server Time Zone Support project, which uses custom tables and functions instead of the AT TIME ZONE statement.
     • You could move all your time zone conversion logic into your application layer instead of the database.

     Also, minor point - US Eastern Standard Time maps to America/Indianapolis. You probably want Eastern Standard Time, which maps to America/New_York.

     If you actually know that the offset is UTC-4, then you simply need to reformat your string to be compliant with the ECMAScript Date Time String Format, which is a simplification of the ISO 8601 Extended Format.

     new Date("2019-04-15T19:09:16-04:00")-

     However, note that New York is on US Eastern Time, which is actually in daylight saving time for the date and time you provided. In other words, it isn't UTC-4 (EST), but rather UTC-5 (EDT). So for that example, it should be:

     new Date("2019-04-15T19:09:16-05:00")-

     But what if you don't know which offset it is for a given time zone on a particular date and time? After all, time zones, daylight saving time transitions, and associated offset are different all over the world, and have changed throughout history. So one cannot just assume a time zone has a single number that is its offset. (Read more under "Time Zone != Offset" in the timezone tag wiki.)

     Presently, JavaScript cannot help you with that on its own. Instead, you'll need to use a library, such as the ones referenced here.

     For example, using Luxon, you can do the following:

     luxon.DateTime.fromISO("2019-04-15T19:09:16", { zone: "America/New_York" }).toJSDate()-

     I think you need to add this parameter to the connection string: stringtype=unspecified

     E.g: jdbc:postgresql://127.0.0.1:5432/testdb?stringtype=unspecified

     If you want to calculate the offset of a time zone such as America/Vancouver from UTC you can do it as follows:

     SELECT (unix_timestamp() - unix_timestamp(convert_tz(now(), 'Etc/UTC', 'America/Vancouver'))) / 3600 as offset;-

     For this to work you will first need to load the time zone information into mysql as outlined here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/mysql-tzinfo-to-sql.html

     SELECT TIMESTAMPDIFF(HOUR, UTC_TIMESTAMP(), NOW());

     If the server's timezone is PST this will return -8.

     SELECT TIMESTAMPDIFF(SECOND, NOW(), UTC_TIMESTAMP());

     Add the result of the above to any unix timestamp if you want to compare it to MySQL DateTimes.
