The United States Armed Forces were initially organized as USEFT (United States Force European Theater, from August 1, 1945 to February 28, 1946, in Berlin and Frankfurt am Main, in the IG Farben building. On March 15, 1947 they were reassigned to EUCOM (European Command) in Frankfurt, 1948 moved from Frankfurt to Heidelberg, Campbell Barracks.
The sub-community includes 5.2 square kilometers of land area, miles of roads, a major train depot, the only fire department in the Karlsruhe Military Community and 160 structures including everything from schools to a movie theater plus several warehouses, each of which is large enough for three football games to be played simultaneously.
