Karl and Zita’s son Otto von Habsburg, the last Crown Prince of Austria, requested that his heart be buried in the crypt of the Benedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma in Hungary. His body was interred in the Imperial Crypt at the Capuchin Church.

The Sisi memorial dedicated to her memory fills a tract of the Volksgarten park. Finished in 1907, with water features, a statue, flower beds, and a tree-lined avenue.
