It is located just north of the city centre, outside the old city gate Østerport which, after it was moved around 1700, used to be located close to present-day Østerport Station. From the beginning, Østerbro has been a wealthy district, and it remains one of the most affluent areas in Copenhagen.

Østerbro is a mainly residential district of Copenhagen, just north of the inner city. With its quiet cobblestone and tree lined streets, and its excellent shopping and cafe life, it makes for a good excursion from the downtown area.
Østerbro is the neighborhood that includes both the national football stadium Parken (which is also the home stadium for the local club F.C. København), the public park Fælledparken, Langelinie and the newly built area Nordhavn.
Østerbro stands for “eastern bridge” and is northeast of downtown Copenhagen. The district borders Nørrebro to the west, with Hellerup to its north. The “København Ø” postcode includes Nordhavn, a new waterfront neighborhood between Østerbro’s older core and Hellerup. From here, you can get the ferry to the Norwegian capital Oslo.
