Nov 2021. Amboise was the most memorable town of our 3 days Chateaus tour. The Chateau Royal has an elevated commanding position overlooking the whole town and Loire. I suggest before visiting it to stop at the Loire islet across (where's Leonardo monument) to capture this beautiful panorama.

Geography[edit] Amboise lies on the banks of the river Loire, 27 kilometres (17 mi) east of Tours. It is also about 18 kilometres (11 mi) away from the historic Château de Chenonceau, situated on the river Cher near the small village of Chenonceaux. Amboise station, on the north bank of the Loire, has rail connections to Orléans, Blois and Tours.

Mar 9, 2022 · Château d’Amboise’s Decline. During the French Wars of Religion in the mid-16th century, French Huguenots conspired against the young king Frances II to gain power in the country. The conspiracy was discovered resulting in 1,200 Protestants being killed and hung throughout the city, including the château’s ramparts.

Chateau d'Amboise. The castle in Amboise dominates most of the town centre and is one of the main attractions for visitors. Entrance to the castle is up a flight of stairs from the central square, and visitors can enjoy the terraces and gardens as well as admiring the royal apartments. Chateau d'Amboise is one of our favourite Loire castles.
