Jan 30, 2024 · The University of San Francisco is located in the heart of the SF, situation right next to the Haight, a few blocks away from the amazing Golden Gate Park, and just a bus ride (which is included in tuition) away from downtown, the Marina, etc. It definitely feels like a small school sometimes, you always run into people on your way to class.

The University of San Francisco was founded by Jesuits in 1855 as St. Ignatius Academy. The school was elevated to collegiate status when it was granted a state charter in 1859. It was the first institution of higher education in San Francisco. The first Bachelor of Arts degree was awarded in 1863 and the first master’s degree in 1867.
