Savissivik (West Greenlandic; old spelling: Savigsivik) or Havighivik (IATA: SVR) is a settlement in the Avannaata municipality in northern Greenland. Located on Meteorite Island, off the northern shores of Melville Bay, the settlement had 55 inhabitants in 2020.
In the northernmost part of Melville Bay on the northwest coast the settlement of Savissivik lies on an island that's surrounded by enormous glaciers that end out in the sea. We're in the part of Greenland where you can't help wondering what's the longest: the coastline or the glacier front?
- Sisimiut. Tucked along the shores of Davis Strait, Sisimiut is a picturesque town known for its colourful houses, cultural heritage, and proximity to the surrounding natural wonders.
- Kullorsuaq. As you sail further north, you will come across Kullorsuaq, a remote village with a population of just 450 people. It is also one of the most scenic villages in Greenland, nestled amidst a striking landscape of towering peaks and dramatic cliffs.
- Siorapaluk. Continuing northward, the settlement of Siorapaluk is one of the northernmost inhabited places on Earth. The population here is just 45 people, mostly hunters.
- Thule Region. Home to the Thule Air Base, a visit to the Thule Region is a must during your time in Greenland. The rugged beauty of this region includes vast tundra, icy fjords, and towering mountains that seem to touch the heavens.
