In 1716 the total costs amounted to £1,095,556 (£167 million in 2020). On 2 December 1697, 31 years and 3 months after the Great Fire destroyed Old St Paul's, the new cathedral was consecrated for use. The Right Reverend Henry Compton, Bishop of London, preached the sermon.
- The Font. Despite its elaborate appearance, the Font’s purpose is simple – to hold water used in the ceremony of baptism. Baptism celebrates the beginning of a Christian’s spiritual journey and the Font is positioned near the west entrance – to welcome visitors into the home and family of the Christian Church.
- St Dunstan's Chapel. St Dunstan's Chapel, consecrated in 1699, was the second part of Wren's building to come into use, after the Quire. The chapel is set aside for prayer throughout the day.
- All Souls' Chapel. This chapel in the north tower was dedicated in 1925 to the memory of Field Marshal Lord Kitchener. Kitchener died at sea and his body was never recovered.
