The Downtown Canal is one of Indianapolis’ most iconic landmarks and cherished public spaces. The picturesque promenade follows the historic Central Canal from 11th St. to White River State Park, and connects with the Indianapolis Cultural Trail at two locations.
The canal walk begins at 10th and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Streets, overlooking a waterfall springing from the reconstructed canal lock gate. From there, the water rushes downward into a circular basin, surrounded by a terraced lawn and amphitheater designed by Browning Day Mullins Dierdorf.
