In 1782, while still in North America, the regiment gained its county association with Cumberland (now part of Cumbria). It only returned to Britain in 1786. It was sent to the West Indies once again in 1796, and then to the Cape of Good Hope four years later.

Assembly 1. (May 1758-August 1759) Cumberland was not represented in this Assembly, “Probably an early case of a neglected county.”. Assembly 2. (August 1759-October 1760) Another short Assembly, dissolved early, because of the death of King George II. Cumberland County members were Winckworth Tonge and Simon Slocomb.
