  1. Oct 26, 2019 · The higher you climb, you’ll be rewarded with exceptional views of Oberammergau and the Kofel. At 1,542 meters (5,059 feet), the Aufacker is higher than the Kofel, too. The Aufacker isn’t as high as the Laber, and it doesn’t have a distinctive shape like the Kofel. Nevertheless, it’s still a lovely mountain to hike in Oberammergau.

Around the beautiful city of Oberammergau, there are several impressive mountains like Notkarspitze or Teufelstättkopf and Laubeneck. All of the mountains there are higher than Kofel. But the steep walls and its Matterhorn-like shape make this small mountain quite unique. It is the unquestioned eye-catcher and often called the "Matterhorn of Oberam...

  4. Mar 3, 2008 · The Alps have a much more rapid increase in elevation but not as high as the Rockies. One of my favorite differences is the of mountain lakes where suddenly a vast mountain emerges in the Alps. In the Rockies there is always a slower decent. The snow season is shorter in the Alps than in the Rockies.

    • Mauna Kea. The dormant volcano Mauna Kea in Hawaii is one of several known peaks that are arguably taller than Everest—as long as you're willing to award the title of “tallest” based on a technicality.
    • Olympus Mons. If Mauna Kea is only taller than Everest because of a technicality, then maybe Olympus Mons has a better claim to the title. Also a dormant volcano, Olympus Mons is around three times the height of Mount Everest, and there’s absolutely no sea water around the base to muddy the definition of where we start measuring its height.
    • Chimborazo. Back on Earth, there’s one final competitor for Everest’s title: Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador. Everest is definitely the highest peak on Earth, and Mauna Kea is arguably the tallest—but Chimborazo is the most prominent, meaning it sticks out farthest from the surface of the Earth.
  5. Nestling at the foot of the Ammergauer Alpen between the distinctive peaks of Kofel (1342m) and Laber (1684m), the highly photogenic village of OBERAMMERGAU has achieved international fame thanks to the Passion Play, which depicts the life of Jesus and is performed by local people every ten years in a purpose-built theatre; it will be performed ...
