May 2, 2022 · Whiskeytown Falls. The tallest cascade in the park, Whiskeytown Falls is reached via a strenuous 1.7 mile hike (3.4 miles roundtrip) on the James K. Carr Trail. The trail follows some steep sections of old logging roads and climbs approximately 700 feet to the falls.
Check out this 2.6-mile out-and-back trail near French Gulch, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 1 h 30 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring.

At 220 feet, Whiskeytown Falls is the longest cascade in the park. At base of waterfall, be sure and walk up the rock staircase to the upper viewing platform. The trail is steep in spots and mostly follows old logging roads.

This 220-foot waterfall is tucked away within the dense forests of the park, the tallest of the four waterfalls in the park and truly a sight to behold. The hike up to this majestic beauty on the Whiskeytown Falls Trail is a fulfilling adventure in itself.
