Of course, though, they probably also realize that Chevy did not actually manage to convince anyone to name a town after him, no matter how good a movie Fletch was.

Feb 1, 2021 · The land that is now Chevy Chase (both in Maryland and D.C.) was once a 560-acre parcel of land known as “Cheivy Chace,” deeded to Colonel Joseph Belt on July 10, 1725 by Charles Calvert, Lord Baltimore.
